One Room Challenge - Week 2

Updated: Nov 25, 2019

Hello, there! If you've been following along, last week you read about me joining in the One Room Challenge (ORC Week 1 post) as a Guest Participant. Yes, I am working on a renovation for our powder room!

You may also be interested in viewing the designs of the featured and guest participants at: www.oneroomchallenge.com/orc-blog. There is a ton of great work happening out there!

PLANNING

So far, I have been having a lot of fun refining my selections for the powder room. I had some initial ideas brewing a little while back, but I find it takes many iterations to get it just right. My daughters nixed the flamingo idea, so I slipped in a parrot instead.

And here it is!

Powder Room Mood Board

Since my inspiration photos from last week's post edged on the tropical side, I found a gorgeous wallpaper designed by Arthouse at Amazon (go figure - they are selling lots of home and decor items!) and a beautiful Benjamin Moore paint color called Slate Teal. Although I love the colors and pattern in the wallpaper, we plan to use it in more of a mural fashion. We will be hanging the wallpaper in specifically sized rectangles that will be trimmed in molding painted the slate teal. It will take advantage of all the beauty of the wallpaper, but not overpower the entire room.

Brass and gold tones will look fantastic with the rich blues of the paint and wallcovering. I decided to go with a Delta single faucet in champagne brass (plus towel ring and toilet paper holder) which works well with the warm brass lighting, and hardware.

The mirror is 34" round in a matte black. It is a perfect companion to go with the brass fixtures. The countertops are going to be quartz in a very faint marble effect. For the backsplash, I found a fun porcelain ceramic mosaic tile in an oval shape.

For art, I have chosen gold sculptural palm leaves and a framed, colorful parrot print. I may need to re-select the print as it is a little smaller than what I am wanting, but it is a great starting point.

GETTING TO WORK

Next week I will be showing you some process and my progress on painting the existing vanity. We have wallpaper and painting of the walls to do, plus all the molding/trim.

By the way, I have upgraded to a newer and better blog application that allows you to post comments directly to my posts! What do you think about this project so far? I'd love to hear from you!

Until next time, Valerie
